Project Problem
City Place is located in a redevelopment area of the City of Bakersfield, California. It was previously an industrial area, and had become seriously dilapidated. The problem was to make both the project and the area attractive for potential residents..

Chelsea’s Solution
Chelsea provided critical assistance to the City to obtain $10.8 million of Infill Infrastructure Grant (Proposition C) funds from the State of California to enhance the development of a linear park alongside the canal that flows through the neighborhood. The CityPlace project was designed with a modern urban style befitting its location in downtown Bakersfield. In addition to the adjoining urban park, the project offers a splash pad water feature for residents, a full panoply of on-site services, and security features that make the project the most popular living choice in downtown Bakersfield. The project was 100% preleased and has maintained full occupancy since inception. Chelsea is currently developing a seniors project on an adjoining site that will offer intergenerational benefits to the residents of CityPlace and to the residents of the new project.
